Snow Cream

As a kid in the 90s, I feel like snow, and lots of it, was typical most winters. Looking back, there are photos of me and my sisters bundled up, standing in enough snow to hide our boots. We made snow men three barrels high and had snow ball fights with enough ammunition to last.

And, we made snow cream. The delicious reward of receiving a blanket of beautiful, white snow from Mother Nature. This morning, my mom texted me a photo of our dad in the kitchen making snow cream in the same old, yellow bowl that he did when we were kids. Here’s his recipe:

one large bowl of snow

1 1/2 cups of milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup of sugar

Enjoy the day. Stay off the roads (just do it). If you don’t have power: stay safe, bundle up, and try pretending this is survivalist training—get creative! If you’re concerned about how the weather is messing up your plans, take a second to calm down… Take a deep breath in. The snow is a gift, roll (or sled) with it!
